Standardizing the Production Process

VKS is an online cloud-based software used for creating and sharing work instructions in any environment that requires manual support. It is designed to standardize processes in order to increase productivity and quality.

"VKS was developed by the owners of a manufacturing company who realized that in a manufacturing environment, with so many different piece parts and so many different ways to get from point A to point B, too many things were getting lost in translation," said Kyle O'Reilly, VKS Sales and Marketing Manager. "They saw the need to become more process driven. The solution was to standardize best processes by putting the visual instructions on paper for the workers to follow along. This concept was then converted into a software solution.

"Engineers, designers or supervisors can rewrite instructions and production techniques to our cloud-based service so workers can implement them instantly without costly delays for re-training, shift changes or new staffing. There is no new software to buy or code to write."

All VKS users have their own unique log in information, so companies have the ability to prompt their operators on the shop floor with forms at any given time. These forms, such as quality inspection forms or production data forms, require the operator to answer specific questions and input data. Operators cannot advance to the next step until they have been properly filled out. By having the operators fill out these forms, not only is VKS ensuring that the operators are following along, but they also collect live production data from the shop floor, which gets stored in a reporting section. This section allows managers to view who is logged into the system, what job and P/O they are working on, how many parts they completed, when they started, when they finished and if they met their required tack time. Managers also receive a full screen shot of every form filled out. VKS generates live KPI graphs from this data, essentially enabling a full Manager Mode capability where managers can log into VKS, view their graphs based on department, work centers or part numbers, see what jobs are running and who is working on them. They have full traceability of the parts from the time they come in the door to the time they leave.

Another feature is the ability for VKS to connect with tools, machines and other software, such as ERP. VKS acknowledges when the operator has used a tool to perform a task, and will automatically advance to the next operation upon completion of the previous one. This ensures that the worker and the instructions are in sync and that no step is forgotten.

"One of the bonuses of being a cloud-based solution is that we are constantly optimizing and adding new features, which all our clients get for free," said O'Reilly.
