Mazak's MEGA 8800 is a rigid HMC designed for heavy-duty machining of tough materials such as Inconel and titanium.
Mazak's rigid MEGA 8800 HMC is built specifically for heavy-duty machining of tough materials such as Inconel and titanium. And with pallet-changing capability offered as standard, Mazak has reported that the machine further increases productivity and easily integrates into automated manufacturing systems.
The MEGA 8800 employs a continuous 4,000 RPM, 100 HP (74 kW) integral motor spindle that generates 774 ft-lbs (1,049 Nm) of torque. It offers a rapid traverse rate of 1,890 IPM (48 m/min) for the X and Z axes and 1,575 IPM (40 m/min) for the Y-axis. Furthermore, the MEGA 8800 provides the powerful thrust force that's essential for heavy-duty cutting, with 5,530 ft-lbs of torque in the X and Z axes and 5,800 ft-lbs (7,863 Nm) in the Y-axis, according to Mazak.
For precise 4-axis indexing and machining, the MEGA 8800's NC rotary table rotates 90° in 1.7 seconds and features 0.0001° minimum increments. The table incorporates Mazak's high-rigidity design that provides 11,063 ft-lbs (15,000 Nm) of clamping force and accommodates workpiece sizes up to 57" (1,450 mm) in diameter and 57" (1,450 mm) high.
Machine pallets measure 31.5" x 31.5" (800 mm x 800 mm) and handle maximum loads of 4,850 lbs (2,200 kg). The standard two-pallet changer is pre-engineered to interface with Mazak's PALLETECH Manufacturing Cell for extended unattended operation and increasing machine spindle utilization.
Pallet stocker layouts - one or two level - can be selected with Mazak's PALLETECH System based on available floor space and the number of machines incorporated in the system. As production needs change and grow, the system allows for expanding with additional machines and pallets due to its modular design.
For accommodating large parts, axis travels on the MEGA 8800 measure 55" (1,400 mm) in X, 47" (1,200 mm) in Y and 52" (1,325 mm) in Z, and the machine incorporates Mazak's MX Hybrid Roller Guide System designed to provide durability and reliability for long-term accuracy. According to Mazak, this way system increases vibration-dampening capability, extends tool life, handles higher load capacities and eliminates tramp oil in the coolant by utilizing a greener grease-based lubrication system.
Cam-driven tool changing on the MEGA 8800 provides 5.5 second chip-to-chip tool change cycles. The machine's tool magazine stores 60 tools and accommodates maximum tool diameters of 10.24" (260 mm). As optional, tool storage capacities of 80, 120 or 160 tools are also available for the MEGA 8800.
The MEGA 8800 features a Windows 7-based MATRIX NEXUS 2 CNC control. The control allows for both conversational and EIA/ISO programming. MATRIX also provides realistic 3D machining simulations, time study analysis and the Mazak Voice Advisor, which assists operators during setup to make initial operations smoother and safer.
