New 5-Axis Horizontal Machining Center with Quill Spindle

"The new Tongtai HG-1250Q is a high performance, heavy-duty 50-taper horizontal machining center (HMC). The "Q" version has a full W-axis quill bar and essentially turns the machine into a boring mill. The boring spindle diameter is 5.12" (130 mm) with a W travel of 27.5". Over 110,000 lbs. of cast iron, coupled with rigid hardened and ground box ways provide the accuracy and stability required for large part production and tough materials. Heidenhain linear scales in all axes provide positioning accuracy," said a company spokesperson.

The "Q" quill version with the W-axis features a 2,500 RPM spindle which is driven by a 50 HP spindle motor and two-speed gearbox. The spindle produces a significant 1,679 ft./lbs. of torque at only 158 RPM.

The machine is a YZ traveling column type design where the column moves in Z. The X, Y, Z work envelope is 78.7" x 55.1" x 49.2". The automatic pallet changer (APC) unit, located in front of the machine provides easy access and helps reduce idle time. The APC is a dual, side-by-side changer and it exchanges pallets in only 30 seconds. For pallet rotation in the machining envelope, a full contouring "B" axis precisely indexes the pallet every 0.001 degree.

The HG-1250Q features an ultra-rigid Meehanite cast iron frame with an advanced multi-point leveling system. The 2" (50 mm) ballscrews in all axes are Class 3 with a double nut, pre-loaded and pre-tensioned design allowing a quick rapid traverse rate of 787 IPM.

The standard 60-station automatic tool changer provides fast tool selection and 3-second changes. The machine is under the command of the FANUC 31iM-B control, featuring the latest in servo and spindle control system technology.
