Maximize Jaw Life by Lessening Amount of Jaw Stock Removal Required
January 1, 2026
Dillon jaw forming rings are designed to lessen the amount of jaw stock removal required during parts set-up, thus maximizing jaw life for cutting and forming operations. They are now available in diameters up to 21". They provide a more uniform grip on the workpiece and mount in direct contact with the top jaw to preload the chucking system. Jaws can be more precisely machined to provide a firmer grip on the workpiece.
Self-centering jaw forming rings attach to the front of jaws without tools, so installation is fast and simple, and set-up times are quicker. Use of this device will provide a jaw surface true to the machine centerline, reduce set-up times, and increase up-times for running machined parts, the company reported. They provide uniform pressure on jaws for a more consistent bore on large diameter chucks, and compensate for "jaw lift" even in worn chucks, which yields better part concentricity. They are suited for wherever soft jaws, round jaws, and full-grip jaws are used.
Chuck-diameter-specific versions and adjustable boring rings are available from 6" to 21" in diameter. Both styles feature no-tool attachment.
