Center Vise Advantages
January 1, 2026

This robot is loading and unloading an EMUGE-FRANKEN EvoGrip centric vise onto an EvoPoint Zero-Point clamping system base. The centric vise has geometry built in that allows for an easy robot gripper interface.
The centering vise (e.g., machine vise) gets its name from the fact that two clamping jaws move together evenly in the center of the vise. The workpiece is thus held in the center of the clamping device and can be easily reached with different cutting tools. This also distinguishes this clamping device from a "classic" vise or from a single-jaw clamping set-up. These design types press the workpiece against a fixed clamping jaw.
Easy-to-use with fast operations, centering vises with high clamping forces and high accuracy offer automated handling of parts and clamping devices. Centering vises have a stable and accessible design for consistent 5-axis machining. A compact design capable of accommodating large workpiece sizes allows the use of shorter tools, which minimizes vibrations and provides higher transferable torque values and better surface finishes due to the system rigidity. Centering vises are also suitable for clamping round components or free-form components.
There are several advantages to centering vises, including greater holding power. For example, the EMUGE-FRANKEN EvoGrip centering vises create a clamping force of up to 75 kN despite a slimmer design than comparable products, so pre-embossing is not necessary. Centering vises offer flexibility to adapt to the application including for zero-point clamping systems, machine tables, swivel brackets, cubes, and pyramids, as well as adapter plates. It is possible to change the set-up of the centering vise to large-part clamping and multiple clamping applications. These types of vises are suitable for manual and automatic loading.
Also, when combined with zero-point clamping systems such as the EMUGE-FRANKEN EvoPoint, set-up times can be reduced by up to 80%.
