Threaded Adjustable Grippers Offer Long-Wear Workholding Capability

Fairlane Products manufactures a wide range of carbide-tipped, serrated grippers, such as hex head type, round head type, and serrated body type.

Fairlane Products has expanded its lineup of workholding and fixturing components with a wide range of adjustable grippers.

Adjustable grippers penetrate the workpiece to provide high holding power. Used in jigs, fixtures, and chuck jaws, these grippers fit a variety of applications. Adjustable grippers are available in high-speed tool steel, with either tool steel or carbide serrations, in a number of thread styles and lengths. The styles include carbide-tipped hex head, carbide-tipped round head, and threaded body type, as well as many tooth patterns such as smooth, fine, extra fine, straight, and diamond. Each variation allows the user to adjust the height of the gripper. They are suited for workholding applications where limited access space or limited fixture travel makes loading, unloading and secure holding difficult.

In the hex head style, the serrated round carbide pad is brazed into hex head pocket, while the threaded body and hex allow height adjustment. The hex head version is available in many tooth pattern serrations pad styles, in both inch and metrics sizes. With shank lengths ranging from 1/2" to 2-1/4" and 12 mm to 60 mm. Pad diameters are from 5/16" to 1" and 10 mm to 30 mm.

A version of the hex head is the Adjustagrip Gripper. This version is like the adjustable hex head, but with added benefits such as a replaceable pad (fits only a 3/8" round gripper that has a tapped-through hole). The Adjustagrip allows for height adjustment and comes in an alloy steel body and a blind internal hole in the back for backside mounting. The Adjustagrip comes in inch sizes only.

The round head gripper type provides a serrated round carbide pad that is brazed into the hex head pocket. The threaded body and flat pad allow for height adjustment. Available in inch sizes only, round head adjustable grippers are available in shank sizes from 9/16" to 2-1/2" with the contact pad available in 3/8" to 3/4" diameters. They are available in many tooth pattern serrations pad styles.

A subset of the round head style is Accugrip, which is designed to fit chuck jaws. Accugrip is basically a round head type gripper but with housing and a lock screw component that allows the user to fit into a chuck jaw. The pad styles are flat and serrated and come only in inch sizes.

Lastly, the threaded body type of adjustable gripper, available in 1/2" to 1-1/2" and 25 mm to 40 mm lengths, allows an internal hex for adjusting from backside. The body type is made from M2 high speed tool steel or carbide pad brazed into alloy steel body and comes in various tooth serrations.
